We Live for Marine Wildlife!

Hola, we are Team MMWRC! We are a volunteer led and operated independent non-profit organization created with the purpose of protecting and rescuing marine wildlife in Mexico. We take action to rescue, rehabilitate, and reintroduce marine wildlife in distress throughout Mexico, and make every effort to work with all stakeholders that play a role in the health and welfare of our oceans and their inhabitants. We work with the explicit permission of the Mexican government authorities and abide by all laws and regulations relating to marine mammals and protected marine wildlife. We follow the same protocols and procedures as our international counterparts and are part of both national and international networks for the protection and rescue of marine wildlife.

We welcome anyone to join us in our mission! Our growing team and network are as diverse as the species we work to protect.

Proudly Mexican

We take pride in our work, our culture, and the rich diversity of marine wildlife that surrounds us. In Mexico, our commitment to marine wildlife rescue, research, and conservation meets global standards and receives esteemed recognition from our colleagues around the world. Mexico plays a crictial role in marine conservation and the protection of several endangered marine species.

Community Matters!

Our coastal communities are essential to our culture and the livelihoods of many families. We work to empower these communities with new skills to help protect marine wildlife while honoring their traditional way of life. By collaborating with our youth and universities, we aim to instill a strong sense of conservatorship in future generations. Together, we can create a sustainable future for both our communities and the environment.

Labor of Love

Our dedicated team of volunteers tirelessly works to protect marine wildlife, even in challenging conditions and with very limited resources. We are driven by a singular goal: to make a difference, even if we have to do it one animal at a time. Together, we strive to ensure a safer, healthier environment for marine wildlife!

We Welcome Scientific
Collaborators!

If you are interested in an academic collaboration or project partnership please contact us. We believe that data should be shared for the benefit to marine wildlife and we just might have the type of data you're after, or be able to collect it on your behalf.

We owe our start in 2018 to the generous support and encouragement of The National Marine Mammal Foundation and Museo de la Ballena. We came together on the Vaquita CPR project and built valuable relationships while trying to protect the world's most cirtically endangered marine mammal, the vaquita porpoise (Phocoena sinus). Special thanks to Dr. Cynthia Smith, Dr. Lorenzo Rojas, Dr. Barbara Taylor, Diego Ruiz, Paco Gomez, and the entire Vaquita CPR/Museo de La Ballena/ Narval team.
