1 / I can't donate much but how else can I help?

Have you checked out our 'Ways to Give' page? There are many ways to donate items we need, even second hand items! In addition, you can donate your services, skills, or time! Join our team, create a local fundraiser for us in your school or community, share our page and social media links, help us spread the word about our work and find more people like you that want to help!

2 / I'm on vacation in La Paz. Can I visit your center?

Thanks for your interest! Our facility is not open to the public because we are located inside a private university and our patients are typically in critical condition. The good news is that we don't always have patients because most of our rescues are carried out in the field and the animals are left to thrive in their natural environment! Consider an internship with MMWRC if you want to get more involved, or arrange for a private tour and presentation for your group or school by contacting us

4 / Who supports you?

MMWRC does not receive any financial assistance from the Mexican government. We operate solely on donations from kind hearted individuals and organizations that want to help.

5 / Can I do my Service Social with MMWRC?

Yes, students of Mexican universities can complete their social service requirements with MMWRC! We require you to have a minimum of 12 months remaining to complete your hours, but we prefer 18-24 months. Students with less than 12 months remaining to complete their social service will not be considered.

6 / Do I have to have a background with animals
or a marine biology degree to volunteer?

Absolutely not! We welcome anyone, from any background to join our team! No prior experience necessary.

7 / Why can't I feed a sea lion or seal I see
on the beach if it looks hungry and sad?

We appreciate your kindness but you are doing a big disservice to the animal and to our rescue efforts when you feed a stranded animal. First and foremost, you can get bitten or come in contact with dangerous body fluids from the animal so your safety is a risk. Secondly, feeding a wild animal who has stranded for reasons yet unknown, could cause the animal's health to decline rapidly for a number of reasons. It also makes our diagnosis more difficult and less accurate because we need to know what that animals original state was at the time of stranding (blood glucose level, stomach contents, etc). You also teach these animals to seek out food from humans putting them in harms way in the future. Please NEVER feed wildlife.

8 / Can I volunteer remotely?

Yes! If you are interested in being a part of our remote team please contact us to learn more about these opportunities.

9 / Do you offer paid positions?

No, at this time we do not offer any paid positions.

10 / I'm scuba certified. Can I volunteer and dive with you?

That's cool, so are we! But it's important to know that this is not a skill that has any place in marine mammal rescue. We never enter the water during a rescue or reintroduction. We're still happy to have you join our team, but you'll have to scuba dive on your own time.
